24/7 - Day 3: Internet and Kaffemiks

After a brief repose I woke up to go with Aqqaluk to his office at the local radio station to use the internet there to update the blog and catch up on some emails. The rest of that day was spent discovering the intricacies of Greenlandic birthday celebrations. The birthday girl got dressed in her traditional suit: a mix of seal skin, beads and beautiful embroidery. She opened the gifts her parents gave her, including a cell phone and a pink Barbie bike, and then all the family and friends started coming for coffee and cake. They did it in quite an organised fashion with never more than 10 guests at a time. When you had your coffee and a chat you leave when the next guests arrive. All the porcelain in the house was being used and washed and used and washed over and over. I did my little share of the washing-up and took a nap or two during the afternoon and evening to try and catch up on last nights lack of sleep. It was an amazing day of free and easy hospitality that seemed to have no end.
