Wake up to the clamour of downtown Lima at full blast by 6am. Incredible and stifling smog. Sore throats all round. Took our time bathing and packing since most of our washing was still wet. Went for a leisurely stroll and crazy, hilarius breakfast: ordered 3 coffees, 1 milk, 2 orange juice, 1 pinable juice and 3 sandwiches; the sandwixhes came out ok but we ended up with 3 x caffee latte, 3 x black coffee, 3 x orange juice and 3 x pinable juice. Waiter must have thought we were crazy. We staggered out sloshing but much amused. Good time had by all. Then to supermarket to stck up for trip. Lots and lots of biscuits but very few sweets to choose from. Got local black maize drink (very sweet) and Inca Cola (very yellow, like Mellow Yellow, tasted like what it looked like ...).
Back at the hotel finished preparations and packing. Loaded Eugenie up with lts of things to take back to SA. Our landlady strongly advised taking a taxi rather than bus to the airport, and explained how, where and how much. She also insisted Jansie and Ethie leave their own luggage behind to collect when they got back from the airport. Very kind!
Trip to airport in taxi not too exiting... Did not manage to gt Ethie's Caracas - Buenos Aires flight refunded but managed to cancel it with assurances that a refund would be possible in Buenos Aires. Eugenie checked in without problems. We had a farewell lunch at the airport (a range of interesting Peruvian creole dishes) and celebratory ice cream.
We praise God for an awesome time together and grace filled seperation.
Jansie and Ethie made their way back to the hotel (rather mre exiting taxi trip), got the luggage and further assistance with taxis and then made it to the bus terminal where this blg is written. Tonight bus to Ariquipa in souther Peru from where we hope to make our way to or possibly over the Chilean border tomorrow.
Please pray travel mercies and grace for Eugenie as she makes her way home via Madrid (10 hour flight + 11 hour wait + 10 hour flight). Pray that she will be able to recover soon, to be able to resume her work back in SA. Please pray right timing, wisdom and smooth transfer between modes of transport from Ariquipa on for Jansie and Ethie, that we don't fall behind schedule. Also strength and health, the journey is taking its toll on our bodies.
We were not able to meet with local believers in Perun despite several contacts. Jansie did manage to talk to believers in Lima over the phone and they blessed us and gave permission to take the stones. Please pray God's perfect will in further connections with believers.
